Dear HotMail. if we could throw you into the sun the world would be a better place because of it. Please go diaf. That said, lets move on…
In addition to the abnormally massive amount of inbound spam I’ve been seeing enter our network from hotmail lately, I got this gem of a phishing email yesterday. “too many the illegal transactions” indeed…
Received: from blu0-omc3-s37.blu0.hotmail.com

Subject: World of Warcraft account disable notification

Now, normally this wouldn’t even be an issue. Amusing grammar aside, I either delete and move on or train my filters where appropriate. The fact that this came from hotmail is really what irritates me. I have a slightly bias view I suppose but being a product of Windows Live now, hotmail makes it a point to block IP’s and network ranges based on obscure metrics with little to no REAL proof of said metrics. Having such seemingly snobbish high standards for data filtering and a holier than thou attitude towards email services in general, it irritates the HELL out of me to see all this garbage spewing from their network all willy nilly. nerdrage off

Upon hearing about the death of Corey Haim, the internet seems abuzz with chatter. Surprisingly at the time of this writing he’s only got a couple Twitter trends going. *shrug* I had honestly thought Corey Feldman would have gone first. From what I have heard he had a huge drug problem for a long time. I expect him soon to follow his late brosef in accordance with “the corey contract” they both signed as children. j/k
Here is a snip from the conversation I had with my wife a short time ago regarding the late Corey Haim:
Wife: huh- this article I’m reading says corey haim had a bigger problem
Wife: AND it says that he died in the same apt complex that Rick James died in in 2004
Me: cocaine is a hell of a drug.
Wife: Devil Facial Tumor Disease was discovered in 1996
Wife: The furry black animals spread a fast-killing cancer when they bite each other’s faces. It causes grotesque facial tumors that eventually prevent them from feeding and can affect their internal organs.
Me: uh
Me: wat?
Me: that’s what corey haim had?
Wife: tazmanian devils apparently
Me: tazmanian devil face cancer?
Wife: yeah- i guess it’s wiped out 70% of thr td population since 1996- but they just found some that are immune to the cancer cells it appears
Wife: http://bit.ly/cbs9P0
Me: that article doesn’t say anything about corey haim…
Here’s to hoping this spawns a string of internet rumors that Corey Haim died of tazmanian face cancer while doing cocaine with Rick James in his apartment.

It’s true, I really do need a haircut but that is far from the most gripping news and sadly the best I could think of to share with you off the top of my head… so to speak. In only somewhat related news this blog has received a makeover which I am actually kind of enjoying. I’m not in love with the current css and it will likely change a few times over the next few days but at least it’s easy to work with. If you refresh the page you will find a number of EVE related backgrounds I’ve made from in-game screenshots I’ve taken over the past 2 years. I’d like to add more since there are currently only 12 in the rotation but I have literally hundreds of extremely beautiful shots taken while engaging in various activities from peaceful ore and ice mining to mission running and enormous fleet battles and gate camping. One day I’ll even add a proper gallery to share it all.

Being the CLI junky that I am and always trying to find an easier way to do things via command line, I installed edictionary:
Homepage: http://edictionary.sourceforge.net/
Description: Command line dictionary and thesaurus
For my first test: The misspelling of “appointment”
edict apointment
edict – Your personal command line dictionary. Version 2.2.
Looking up “apointment” in Merriam Webster Online Dictionary…
Don’t understand Swahili words like apointment
!!
Such epic fail, it approaches win.

So I decided to spend some more time on my blog. Several hours later I then decided that people who spend a lot of time on their blogs probably have too much time on their hands. I’m not one of those people.

Spiders really don’t bother me much. Not the real ones anyway, but the thought of a Microsoft Spider could possibly give me nightmares. Those are better off blocked imo.
Nick: Hey scollins
Nick: did killer say anything about the modsec rule that looks like its blocking microsoft spiders?
scollins: I haven’t heard anything. but microsoft spiders sound really scary.
